About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent; the Highly Qualified requirement specifies a high school diploma or GED.
• Meet one Highly Qualified qualification: 60 postsecondary hours of college coursework, an associate degree, or passing the ParaPro Assessment or another listed assessment/program.
• CPR certificate.
• First Aid certificate.
• QBS certificate.
• Criminal background clearance.
• Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Job-related experience is desired.
• Skills in adhering to safety practices, operating standard office equipment and pertinent software, and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
• Knowledge of basic math; reading manuals; writing documents in prescribed formats; presenting information; and understanding complex, multi-step instructions.
• Knowledge of instructional procedures and practices, age-appropriate student activities, safety practices and procedures, conflict resolution, and child development and behavior.
• Ability to schedule activities, gather or collate data, and use basic job-related equipment.
• Ability to work with diverse individuals and data, adapt to changing work priorities, communicate with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, work as part of a team, handle constant interruptions, and maintain positive rapport with students, employees, and the community.
• Ability to identify issues and develop action plans.

Responsibilities

• Adapt classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the supervising teacher’s direction to support classroom objectives.
• Administer tests, homework, and make-up work in support of classroom teachers.
• Assist students who are medically fragile, physically disabled, or developmentally delayed with personal hygiene and immediate healthcare needs.
• Attend meetings and in-service presentations, including those concerning first aid, CPR, and emergency procedures.
• Communicate with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, and parents to assist with evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives.
• Escort students to destinations such as bathrooms, offices, and classrooms to support safe and efficient movement.
• Implement behavioral plans designed by the IEP team under assigned teachers’ supervision.
• Intervene in potential conflicts using appropriate physical and/or therapeutic approaches to diffuse confrontations and minimize disruptions.
• Document instructional materials and maintain manual and electronic files and records.
• Model conversation, manners, cleanup activities, listening, job skills, and everyday interactions to demonstrate appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner.
• Monitor students’ daily schedules and behavior plans to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
• Monitor students during assigned periods in school environments such as restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, bus loading zones, cafeterias, and parking lots.
• Perform general clerical functions, including copying, filing, and data entry.
• Provide instruction under an assigned teacher’s supervision through individual and group activities, including academic subjects, social skills, daily living skills, and job skills.
• Remain with students at all times to ensure their safety, remove them when necessary, and de-escalate situations outside the classroom.
• Respond to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
