About The Position

Requirements

• Six years of progressively responsible transit vehicle maintenance or related heavy-equipment experience, including diesel, hybrid, and battery electric vehicles and administrative duties related to vehicle maintenance.
• At least two years of supervisory experience.
• An associate degree in Applied Science, such as Automotive/Diesel Technology, electronics, or Engineering; graduation from an approved technical, trade, or vocational school; or an equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, and abilities. Education and coursework may substitute for years of experience.
• Demonstrated experience developing operating manuals, policies, and procedures.
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, uses, repair, and maintenance; risk and safety precautions and regulations; public transportation systems and transit operations; employee supervision; applicable laws and employment policies, including collective bargaining agreements; and workflow and inventory management.
• Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments; lead and coordinate team projects; identify areas for improvement and suggest or develop solutions; use logic and reasoning to evaluate alternatives; maintain confidentiality; represent the agency with stakeholders; meet schedules and deadlines; and communicate effectively orally and in writing.
• Technology skills with Microsoft Office Suite and maintenance management systems and software.
• Ability to travel within the metropolitan area; occasional travel outside the region may be required.
• Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments in all weather conditions and perform work involving physical strain, such as medium lifting.
• A valid Oregon State Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the District's insurance carrier.

Nice To Haves

• ASE certification, preferably Master Transit Bus.

Responsibilities

• Plan, assign, and supervise maintenance and repair of transit coaches and support vehicles; schedule repairs, set priorities, inspect equipment, prepare work orders, and estimate time and materials.
• Maintain and evaluate maintenance records and reports, analyze data, and assist in developing divisional policies and action plans.
• Assist in developing and scheduling preventative maintenance programs and developing or revising department operating procedures.
• Manage and update information and tracking procedures in the maintenance management and data collection system.
• Apply contract-administration rules when administering collective bargaining agreements, service agreements, and other contracts.
• Participate in departmental personnel selection under the direction of the Director of Fleet Management and/or Fleet Maintenance Manager, and make effective recommendations regarding new employees.
• Direct a multifunctional team on vehicle maintenance challenges, servicing techniques, detailing requirements, and updates to maintenance and repair procedures.
• Conduct employee performance evaluations, review and approve time sheets, and provide productivity reports and coaching to improve team performance.
• Review daily requirements and monitor preventative maintenance for all equipment; review repair orders and assignments daily.
• Conduct shift meetings and make presentations to other groups and committees.
• Develop and maintain a motivated, focused work team through direction and leadership.
• Maintain work-related safety awareness activities, respond to employee accidents or injuries, and monitor compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
• Coordinate with Facilities Management on maintenance and repair of three critical district buildings and associated equipment.
• Adhere to procurement policies and procedures, including managing contract compliance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
