About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Willingness to work all shifts, including weekends, overnights, and holidays.
• Proficiency with computer and software systems, including MS Office, GIS, and web-based information systems.
• Aptitude for providing exceptional customer service.
• Ability to pass a State Police background/criminal history check.
• In-depth knowledge of local roadways.
• At least 3 years of experience with a TMC-type facility and/or traffic management.
• Track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
• Oral and written communication skills.
• Computer/software skills, including MS Office applications, spreadsheets, and databases.
• Ability to work well with internal, external, and partner groups and individuals.
• Ability to respond to problem situations.

Responsibilities

• Operate the Transportation Management Center’s Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS).
• Monitor radios and police scanners, CCTV displays, and the system map for incidents.
• Monitor computerized traffic signal and ramp metering activities.
• Dispatch traffic signal malfunctions and highway maintenance calls to appropriate personnel or jurisdictions.
• Perform record-keeping tasks and keyboard entries, and generate daily reports.
• Monitor and update variable message signs, including dial-up portable signs.
• Generate and display traffic-related messages on VMS/PVMS.
• Troubleshoot and resolve system-related problems.
• Interact with maintenance personnel regarding system performance.
• Monitor and assist coworkers to ensure information is accurate and timely.
• Assemble, collate, and prepare roadwork and construction information for daily, weekly, and OpenReach/511NY Road Work reports.
• Administer On-The-Job Training.
• Carry out System Operator I responsibilities.
• Make responsible and ethical decisions regarding company matters.
• Mentor and train new staff, and respond to problem situations 24/7/365.
