The Associate Dispatcher (System Operator) is a training position in the Duke Energy Florida Energy Control Center for becoming a Dispatcher. The Transmission classification is responsible for all transmission desk functions. During the initial 12–15 months of employment, the Associate Dispatcher completes Duke Energy’s Dispatcher Qualification Program, using classroom instruction, on-the-job training, field experience, and power system simulation to develop proficiency in System Operator functions. The role involves operating and maintaining the high-voltage transmission system safely, reliably, and economically; coordinating and directing transmission switching for routine maintenance and power restoration; optimizing resources to regulate system voltage; analyzing the electric system for harmful contingencies; and developing and implementing plans to mitigate contingencies. Power-system control and monitoring operate 24 hours a day, so the position works 12-hour rotating shifts and has call-out responsibilities. The employee must be available to work as needed at any hour, including nights, weekends, and holidays. The position is onsite at a company facility. Onsite employees must live within a reasonable daily commute, no more than 50 miles one way from their assigned work location. Travel is 5–15%. Relocation assistance may be provided as applicable. This is a represented position in the Main IBEW Florida Union and is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
