About The Position

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in safety engineering, industrial hygiene or environmental science or comparable field of study; or equivalent knowledge and experience.
• Minimum of 5 years industrial operations experience / Maritime trade experience preferred.
• Knowledge of Maritime rules and regulations: OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH, ANSI, EPA and State and Local regulations.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Company Safety and Environmental Policies Federal safety regulations and job safety analysis required.
• Must have and maintain a current valid driver’s license with a record that allows the operation of company vehicles.
• Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Must have knowledge of: Applicable Federal, State, and Local, Environmental/Health/Safety Regulations (1915, 1910, EPA).
• Safe operational procedures of tools and machinery associated with the work performed.
• Techniques used to recognize Health/Safety Hazards and Environmental risks.
• Working with and management of hazardous materials and waste.
• Presentation techniques for Health/Safety Training.
• Effective oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively present complex topics in a understandable manner.
• Ability to work independently to complete responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of NAVSEA/MSC/USCG Standard Items and GTR’s.
• Experience with behavior-based safety processes.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and update departmental documentation, procedures, and policies to comply with OSHA 1910/1915 and other regulatory standards.
• Support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action tracking.
• Provide administrative and technical support during OSHA, DEQ, NAVSEA, and customer audits.
• Collects and submits environmental performance and emissions data.
• Collaborates with shipyard and corporate management on department initiatives.
• Generates statistical reports, newsletters, and other related information to management.
• Coordinate workplace health initiatives consistent with OSHA guidelines, including illness prevention, hygiene programs, and pandemic response planning.
• Support compliance with EPA regulations regarding hazardous waste, stormwater, and air emissions.
• Assist with ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 program support, including audits, document control, corrective actions, and system initiatives.
• Performs general administrative, record-keeping, and reporting functions in support of departmental programs.
• Provides support for safety events, drills, and recognition programs.
• Keeping up to date with new legislation and health and safety standards.
• Other duties as assigned.
