About The Position

Requirements

• Registered Nurse licensed in the State of Virginia or a compact state.
• Licensed to work as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
• Certified in BLS, ACLS, PALS, or the equivalent.
• At least 2 years of experience in a specialized area with Charge Nurse or equivalent supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
• CPAN certification.

Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise patient care during assigned shifts and make rounds to ensure clinical care standards are met.
• Assess shift workload and staffing needs; pursue coverage for call-ins and unexpected staffing needs in coordination with the Nurse Manager.
• Coordinate patient transfers, admissions, and discharges, and make bed allocations and patient assignments based on staff competence.
• Adjust workloads and organize or reprioritize work according to patient and staff needs, available resources, and unit requirements.
• Keep the Nurse Manager informed about unit activities, needs, and problems, and collaborate on recommendations regarding staff transfers, promotions, and development needs.
• Facilitate daily operations and workflow in assigned areas and make immediate administrative decisions when the Nurse Manager is absent.
• Verify orders, provide competent patient care, recognize personal limitations, seek assistance when needed, and respond effectively to emergencies.
• Solicit feedback from patients and visitors and maintain collaborative relationships with the off-tour supervisor.
• Foster teamwork, communication, and participative management; proactively address conflicts.
• Assign preceptors for departmental new hires and monitor their progress.
• Assess team members' clinical competency through observation, testing, return demonstration, and evaluation of variances from care standards.
• Mentor and serve as a resource to students, new hires, LPNs, floating/flexi nurses, and unlicensed personnel.
• Provide feedback on employee performance and clinical experience to the Nurse Manager and employee.
• Coordinate staff development and unit-based education with the Clinical Nurse Educator.
• Assist the Nurse Manager with retention efforts and monitor staff performance and compliance with policies and procedures.
• Follow administrative protocols and attend required hospital-wide orientations, meetings, and in-services.
• Facilitate staff meetings and UBC as needed.
• Demonstrate flexibility in work scheduling when necessary to ensure patient care.
