About The Position

Requirements

• Licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse under Chapter 454, Florida Statutes, eligibility to practice nursing under the specified Florida Administrative Code provisions, or certification as a physician assistant under Chapter 458, Florida Statutes.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License and access to private transportation.
• Maintain active American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and provide evidence of completion every two years; employees pay for maintaining BLS.
• Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology; professional nursing practices; public health principles, practices, and techniques; quality improvement methods; contract management policies and procedures; and FDOH contract guidelines.
• Computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications and automated client databases such as Health Management System (HMS) or comparable systems.
• Ability to organize, analyze, and interpret data; prepare written and verbal reports; coordinate multiple projects; and communicate effectively with schools, nonprofits, coalitions, government agencies, and other partners.
• Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision; supervise people; document and maintain medical charts; apply rules and procedures; prioritize work; develop reports; direct nursing and teaching activities; assess budgetary needs; formulate policies and procedures; and plan and direct program activities.
• Ability to establish community coalitions and maintain effective working relationships with community partners.
• Ability to learn and communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing.
• Must complete a security background check and/or drug screening and participate in direct deposit.
• Must be able to perform emergency duty before, during, and/or beyond normal work hours or days when required.

Responsibilities

• Supervise staff, including hiring and selection, developing performance plans, conducting appraisals, directing work, approving leave, and taking or recommending disciplinary action.
• Plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate the FDOH-Monroe County School Health Program.
• Coordinate and evaluate school health program activities and attend meetings with community partners.
• Provide clinical supervision for FDOH-Monroe County and Monroe County School District School Health staff.
• Provide immunization education, materials, and updates to staff, physicians, and school personnel.
• Complete the annual Kindergarten and 7th grade immunization compliance report and collaborate on strategies to increase childhood immunization compliance.
• Develop basic and supplemental school health plan goals and objectives with state, county, and school district partners, and coordinate implementation with school health nursing staff.
• Coordinate and complete required school health reports, including the annual report and school health service plan.
• Create and maintain the Monroe County School District health contract and ensure school district policies align with FDOH orders and directives.
• Create and monitor purchase orders supporting school health functions.
• Manage third-party dental contracts as contract manager.
• Perform other related duties, which may include vaccine administration at school-aged children’s vaccine PODs and community vaccine campaigns.
• Perform emergency duties as required, including possible work in special needs or Red Cross shelters and disaster response.
