Timber Procurement Manager

About The Position
Domtar is seeking a Timber Procurement Manager for its Cross City, Florida location. This full-time, permanent position leads wood procurement activities for the facility. The manager leads department staff and allocates resources to sustainably procure budgeted timber at the lowest cost while meeting the mill’s production demands and applying Domtar’s core values. The role oversees planning, procurement, and administration of timber contracts and by-product agreements to meet facility cost and inventory targets. It involves maintaining productive relationships with internal teams and external suppliers, contractors, land managers, businesses, communities, and government agencies. The manager also supports safe and efficient mill operations, maintains auditable wood settlement, inventory, and financial reporting processes, and engages with industry associations and government agencies on sustainable forest management, logger safety, and support for the forest industry.
Requirements
- Minimum 10 years of experience in forest production and purchasing.
- Knowledge of wood procurement, wood quality, market conditions, forest management, landowner concerns, wood price structures, and wood supplier issues.
- Ability to identify talent, promote team unity, and motivate individuals in support of company goals and values.
- Ability to build business relationships with a wide range of individuals.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor of Science degree in forestry or related historical experience in the field is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Lead wood procurement activities for Domtar’s Cross City facility, including leading department staff and allocating resources.
- Sustainably procure budgeted timber at the lowest cost to meet mill production demands.
- Oversee the planning, procurement, and administration of timber contracts and by-product agreements to meet budget, cost, and inventory targets.
- Build and maintain relationships within the company and with individuals, businesses, communities, and government agencies.
- Model professionalism, ethics, and integrity in relationships with wood suppliers, contractors, land managers, and others in the wood supply chain.
- Ensure procured timber meets quality specifications.
- Engage and communicate with the Sawmill Department and management to support safe and efficient operations.
- Coordinate with Accounting to support and maintain auditable processes for wood settlements, inventory, and financial reporting.
- Engage with forest industry associations and government agencies to promote sustainable forest management and logger safety, and to support the industry.
