About The Position

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy with a Pharmacist degree.
• Current state license in good standing.
• BCLS certification.
• At least three months of experience in pharmacy.
• Working knowledge of OSHA, JCAHO, HCFA, and state guidelines.
• Experience facilitating teams.
• Experience writing policies and procedures.
• Basic understanding of computer use in processing prescription orders and minimum word-processing skills.
• Self-motivated and self-directed, with excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to organize meetings and inspections.
• Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English.
• Good and regular attendance.
• Competence in the treatment needs of adult and geriatric patients.
• Ability to enter a minimum of 40 orders per four-hour shift.

Responsibilities

• Compound and dispense medications and pharmaceutical supplies in accordance with prescriptions, medication orders, and professional standards.
• Interpret medication orders and review patient profiles to ensure safe and appropriate drug therapy, including identifying therapeutic duplication, significant drug interactions, allergy risks, and dosing concerns.
• Participate in hospital Performance Improvement plans and assist with clinical, quality management, and education programs.
• Consult with and advise Administration, Medical Staff, hospital staff, patients, and health professionals on drug information, quality, regulatory, and risk issues.
• Assist the Director of Pharmacy in coordinating and implementing Pharmacy activities, and keep the Director informed of workload status.
• Direct and supervise Pharmacy personnel, provide professional and technical guidance, and assist Pharmacists and Technicians with routine duties and technical tasks.
• Maintain and disseminate drug information through in-service education and consultation.
• Prepare, label, package, and check medications and IV products; maintain aseptic techniques and ensure technician-prepared products are checked before release.
• Prioritize STAT, Now, Waiting, and fill-on-arrival orders; prepare unit-of-use doses when possible and follow through on pending orders.
• Perform pharmacokinetics dosing services, interpret levels, modify doses, and write progress notes according to protocol.
• Calculate fluid, electrolyte, and calorie needs; assess formulation appropriateness and clarify controversial orders with physicians.
• Maintain Pharmacy and controlled-substance security and ensure relevant logs and procedures are completed.
• Generate required reports, perform backup procedures, and ensure accurate product labeling, packaging, and counts.
