Instructor, Nutrition (Part-time)

About The Position
Milwaukee Area Technical College is seeking a part-time faculty instructor to teach Nutrition Science and other related courses as needed. Under the supervision of the Dean of STEM, the instructor may also contribute to curriculum development, grant-related activities, departmental and institutional efforts to promote teaching and learning, and other assigned duties. This is an applicant-pool position supporting the STEM Pathway. Assignments are temporary, not guaranteed, and may vary in hours and days according to course availability and departmental needs each semester. Work must be performed in Wisconsin. Teaching assignments may include in-person, online, or hybrid instruction and may take place during daytime, evening, or weekend hours. The position is available to start in the spring 2027 semester. The starting pay is $40 per course hour of teaching, with an additional 45 minutes of compensation for each hour of instruction to cover office hours and preparation time, equivalent to $70 per hour. The starting teaching wage is non-negotiable.
Requirements
- Meet one of the following educational requirements: a master's degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or Food and Nutrition, with at least four undergraduate credits in Anatomy and/or Physiology; or a master's degree plus 18 graduate credits in Nutrition, Dietetics, or Food and Nutrition, with at least four undergraduate credits in Anatomy and Physiology.
- Provide unofficial transcripts for all degrees earned from an accredited institution with the application.
- Demonstrate the listed standards of teaching excellence: understanding students and fostering student success; classroom management; planning and organization; content mastery and currency; teaching methodology; assessment of student learning; and professional contributions.
- Have experience with email systems such as Gmail or Outlook, voicemail systems, and Microsoft Office Suite or Google tools.
- Prepare and present an interactive theory lesson and simulated teaching demonstration lasting 10 minutes of the overall interview time if selected for an interview.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with, or willingness to learn, online information management systems used for student advising, student programs, grading, class schedules, and rosters.
- Experience with Blackboard or other web-based course-management systems.
- Experience with technology-based instructional delivery systems, including SMART symposium, interactive touch-screen monitors, LCD projectors, DVD players, or other classroom technology.
- Experience with emerging technologies such as social networking applications.
- A current resume or CV.
Responsibilities
- Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
- Manage the classroom and laboratory.
- Develop curriculum, monitor and revise it to maintain course effectiveness, and assist in program evaluation.
- Manage equipment, supplies, and materials.
- Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
- Collaborate with the advisory committee in the program area.
- Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
- Promote the education and training program; participate in recruiting and retaining students and marketing MATC.
- Support student organizations and activities.
- Develop relationships with business and industry.
- Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
- Maintain certification, continue professional development, and stay current in the field.
- Participate in grant-related activities and MATC- and WTCS-wide activities to promote teaching and learning, as applicable.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
