About The Position

The registered nurse is responsible for providing high quality professional health care to patients for all age groups cared for in the unit.

Requirements

  • Possess current hospital experience (within 5 years) or be a new nursing graduate (within 2 years).
  • Possess a service orientation.
  • State of Illinois RN license that’s active and in good standing.
  • CPR certification within 3 months of hire.
  • ACLS within one year of hire.
  • PALS within one year of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • At least 1 year of experience in hospital clinical nursing.

Responsibilities

  • Providing timely and appropriate assessments of patient condition.
  • Formulating a plan of care timely that addresses all of the patient’s problems and interventions are appropriate for the patient's condition.
  • Recognizing emergencies promptly and responding in an appropriate manner.
  • Taking responsibility for crash cart readiness, department readiness and is proficient in emergency procedures.
  • Administering medications & IV’s timely and accurately.
  • Performing treatments & procedures skillfully and on time as appropriate to the unit.
  • Educating patients & families, delivering the information on an appropriate level to the individual. Information is complete & documented.
  • Applying knowledge of National Patient Safety Goals.
  • Assuring that hourly rounding and assessing is completed.
  • Demonstrating an awareness of fall prevention techniques: identifies patients at risk, communicates risks to other caregivers, reports all falls.
  • Engaging in infection control practices and demonstrates knowledge of isolation procedures.
  • Ensuring documentation is timely and accurately reflects patient condition and progress.
  • Practicing within ethical, regulatory and legal guidelines.
  • Familiarity with the electronic documentation system and using it effectively and efficiently.
  • Treating patients/families as guests. Respecting privacy and confidentiality of patients.
  • Maintaining professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Creating a positive learning environment for students and new team members.
  • Attending department meetings, inservice programs and continuing education classes.
  • Demonstrating a willingness to learn and apply new knowledge. Holding self to high standards to deliver to the best of his/her abilities.
  • Other duties assigned.
