About The Position

Penobscot Community Health Care (PCHC) is hiring for its one-year, full-time PGY1 Nurse Practitioner Residency Program. The fully accredited program provides recent family nurse practitioner graduates with a supportive transition from education to practice and advanced primary care training in a Federally Qualified Health Center setting. Residents serve patients across the lifespan in an integrated, team-based environment, with an emphasis on clinical, team-based, and trauma-informed care in safety-net settings and on serving underserved and rural Maine communities. Residents receive structured mentorship and preceptorship, participate in a collaborative cohort model, train with medical, pharmacy, dental, and behavioral health teams, and complete diverse clinical rotations. The program supports provider wellness and resilience and prepares residents for long-term careers delivering integrated, patient-centered primary care. The role is salaried and works approximately 40 hours per week, including 32 hours of patient contact. There are no regular nights or weekends, though residents have one week of call near the end of the year. Residents may experience rotations in areas such as Community Care and Geriatrics, Women’s Health, Recovery Services, School-Based Healthcare, and Healthcare for the Unhoused. The position is based in the Bangor, Maine area within PCHC’s practices and program service sites.
