About The Position

OrthoVirginia is seeking a compassionate, organized, and patient-focused Medical Assistant (Clinical Team Member) to join our orthopedic care team. In this role, you will support physicians and clinical staff by providing exceptional patient care, coordinating clinic activities, and ensuring efficient daily operations. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with orthopedic providers while assisting patients throughout their treatment journey, including office visits, diagnostic testing, surgery coordination, and post-operative care.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current Medical Assistant certification or registration, or eligibility in accordance with state requirements.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within established timeframe.
  • Previous healthcare, clinical, or patient care experience.
  • Excellent customer service skills with a strong commitment to patient-centered care.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities in a busy clinical environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in documentation.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA guidelines.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR) systems and standard office technology.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team.

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Assistant certification (CMA, RMA, CCMA, or equivalent).
  • Previous orthopedic, sports medicine, or surgical practice experience.
  • Experience with electronic health record systems.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and maintain exam rooms prior to patient appointments.
  • Obtain and document patient medical histories, vital signs, height, weight, and other relevant clinical information.
  • Assist providers with patient examinations and procedures as directed.
  • Enter physician-directed orders, including imaging studies, physical therapy referrals, and other diagnostic or treatment services.
  • Provide patient education regarding orthopedic treatment plans, cast care, traction care, braces, and orthopedic appliances.
  • Support patient flow to promote an efficient clinic experience.
  • Schedule appointments related to patient care, including follow-up visits, post-operative appointments, imaging, and therapy services.
  • Coordinate surgical scheduling, including pre-operative testing, history and physical appointments, equipment needs, and therapy services.
  • Serve as a resource for patients by addressing questions and facilitating communication with providers.
  • Respond promptly to patient phone calls, messages, and clinical inquiries, ensuring timely resolution or appropriate escalation.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and fully stocked treatment rooms, clinical workspaces, and bracing areas.
  • Ensure proper handling and disposal of sharps, biohazardous materials, and medical supplies in accordance with safety standards.
  • Assist with administrative tasks as needed to support clinic operations and patient satisfaction.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies, procedures, infection prevention protocols, and regulatory requirements.
