About The Position

La Escuela Amigos is dedicated to a strong tradition of excellence in bilingual English and Spanish education. Located in the Cambridgeport neighborhood, Amigos is a comprehensive Junior K–8 school. Bringing culturally diverse students together in situations where each has equal status fosters motivation and promotes cohesion, community building, and cooperation. The Amigos School seeks to hire a Bilingual (Spanish/English) Language Arts Teacher to join our diverse, committed, and passionate community. This individual will be responsible for providing Spanish Language Support and language arts instruction to students. The successful Two-Way candidate will have experience planning, implementing, and adapting curriculum, based on the Massachusetts State Frameworks and the Common Core. The successful candidate will set high expectations for all students and use scaffolding and differentiation to support students in accessing all language and content. Students in Two-Way schools receive instruction in Spanish and English. The Math Interventionist teacher will provide intervention in Spanish and English. They will work collaboratively and in concert with their colleagues to plan and implement an academically and linguistically engaging curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and socially/culturally responsive to the needs of the dual language student population.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, including coursework in first and second language acquisition.
  • High levels of native language proficiency in Spanish and English, including listening, speaking, reading, grammar, and writing.
  • Familiarity and experience with a variety of online platforms.
  • Creativity and passion for dual language and anti-racist teaching.
  • Familiarity with and appreciation of middle school students, their needs, and interests.
  • Previous and successful experience working in a multicultural environment and demonstrated implementation of culturally responsive practices that include students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Appropriate Massachusetts Certification: Foreign Language Certification 5-12 (Spanish), Language Arts, SEI or Two-way Immersion Endorsement

Responsibilities

  • Provide targeted Spanish language development support and language arts instruction
  • Identify and assess students and work in collaboration with the school’s Dual Language Instructional Coach
  • Match student needs with appropriate interventions and monitor progress
  • Collaborate with teachers, instructional coaches, other specialists, and administrators
  • Participate in collaborative curriculum development, grade-level activities, school-wide, and district functions
  • Communicate effectively
