About The Position

The Patient Care Technician provides direct patient care, supporting independent and dependent activities of daily living, monitoring vital signs, assisting with mobility and ambulation, performing phlebotomy, point of care testing, EKG testing, peripheral IV removal, specimen collection, and foley catheter insertion and removal. This role requires compliance with patient safety practices under the direction of a professional RN nurse. Responsibilities also include observing patients' physical, mental, and emotional conditions, documenting observations in a timely and accurate manner, and reporting any changes to the nurse or medical staff. Requirements

  • HS Diploma or Equivalent
  • Successful completion of one of the following: Sentara Care Partner Certification Program, Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA), National Patient Care Technician (NCPCT), US Navy Hospital Corps School, Emergency Services (EMR, EMS, EMT, AEMT, Paramedic), current student enrolled in a clinical program (beyond prerequisites) having completed at least one semester of RN, LPN, RT or PT, or current work experience within last three years as a PCT or Nursing Assistant
  • Basic Life Support Certification
