About The Position

Requirements

• Two years of nursing experience in an Intensive Care Unit.
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited nursing program.
• Current State of Texas Registered Nurse license or Compact Registered Nursing License; if licensed through the compact, obtain a Texas license within 90 days of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification as required by St. David’s Healthcare policy.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification as required by St. David’s Healthcare policy, within 60 days of hire.
• Completion of a Course in Advanced Trauma Nursing (CATN) or Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) certification within one year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Perform and document patient assessments at admission.
• Develop plans of care, including discharge plans, revise plans based on patient response to treatment, and evaluate their effectiveness.
• Direct, monitor, and evaluate care delegated to non-licensed personnel on the team.
• Document the outcomes of nursing interventions and patient responses.
• Provide educational materials to patients and families about care and treatments.
• Administer medications and complete treatments according to hospital policy.
• Perform venipuncture and administer and maintain IV fluids and IV medications.
• Review new physician orders and ensure they are carried out and documented correctly.
• Verify that other departments are notified of orders and services.
• Notify the Charge Nurse and/or physician of changes in patient status.
• Provide accurate, relevant patient information to the oncoming shift.
