About The Position

We are seeking a full-time Fleet Mechanic responsible for performing routine maintenance and repairs on a fleet of vehicles, including trucks, buses, and other industrial equipment. The role ensures that all vehicles gas, diesel and electrical are maintained in a safe, efficient, and reliable condition, minimizing downtime and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or an associate degree in Diesel and Gas mechanics or a related field preferred.
  • Mechanical certification such as ASE or equivalent is required.
  • Three to five years’ experience as a Diesel and Gas mechanic, particularly in fleet maintenance or a similar role.
  • Strong mechanical and diagnostic skills, with experience in using diagnostic tools and repair equipment.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with drivers about vehicle status and operational issues.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • Must be able to work with little or no supervision.
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License and pass a drug screening test.
  • Ability to read gauges and instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular inspections and maintenance on Space Center Houston’s fleet of vehicles, including oil changes, filter replacements, and tire rotations.
  • Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as brake checks, fluid level checks, and alignment services.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in various types of vehicles.
  • Use diagnostic tools and equipment to identify problems and determine necessary repairs.
  • Repair or replace faulty components, including engines, transmissions, fuel systems, and electrical systems.
  • Maintain detailed records of all maintenance and repair work performed on each vehicle.
  • Track vehicle service history and manage scheduling for upcoming maintenance.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Conduct safety inspections and address any issues that may affect vehicle safety or performance.
  • Ensure that all repairs are done in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Communicate with drivers about vehicle performance, maintenance needs, and repair statuses.
  • Provide recommendations for improving vehicle performance and reliability.
  • Manage and order parts and supplies needed for vehicle maintenance and repairs.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area, including tools and equipment.
  • Respond to roadside breakdowns and perform emergency repairs as needed.
  • Work flexible hours to accommodate emergency situations and vehicle downtime.
  • All other duties as assigned.
