About The Position

The Finance Manager will report to the Finance Controller and support Gakino’amaage: Teach For Canada’s financial operations. This position involves overseeing the organization's finances. This role is a hybrid position with required travel as directed by Gakino’amaage: Teach For Canada for in-person programming, meetings and related work obligations as necessary.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of bookkeeping experience, preferably for a charity
  • Experience with QuickBooks and expense management software
  • Respectful of Indigenous cultures and histories: You have a deep respect for the history, culture, and goals of Indigenous communities in Canada. You care that goals are reached in the right way.
  • Detail-oriented: You are thorough in your work: you take the time to ask questions and ensure accuracy.
  • Tech savvy: You are highly proficient with QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, Advataxes, or other expense management software, and learn other tech quickly.
  • Strategic thinker and problem solver: You plan ahead and proactively solve challenges.
  • Planner: You prioritize and plan to effectively meet competing deadlines.
  • Required to apply for and obtain a Criminal Record and Judicial Matters Police Check.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains the financial records of Gakino’amaage: Teach For Canada, including categorizing all transactions and performing entries for accounts payables, receivables, prepaid expenses, accruals, and petty cash
  • Performs monthly bank accounts and visa reconciliations, ensuring missing receipts are identified and researched in a timely manner
  • Monitors the expense management system, ensuring weekly credit card reports are uploaded, data is archived and finance policies and internal controls are followed
  • Maintains cash flow template based on actual spending, and works with Finance Controller to ensure information is accurate and cash meets organizational needs
  • Processes bi-weekly payroll in Quickbooks, with percentage allocations to departments and funding sources
  • Prepares and organizes data for monthly financial statements and departmental expense reports reviews
  • Supports the end-of-year and annual charitable audit activities by conducting account analysis and reconciliations, compiling audit schedules and preparing audit requests
  • Support the financial planning and administration of organizational programs and events, including occasional in-person participation at initiatives such as the Summer Enrichment Program and Educational Assistant Learning Summit to support financial operations.
  • Participates in the department's quarterly, annual planning and review processes to reach and advance the goals of the department and organization
  • Demonstrates flexibility, creativity and problem-solving skills, actively participating in the implementation of special organizational projects as identified
