Staff Software Engineer

About The Position
Weave is seeking a Staff Backend Engineer to work across data, AI, and backend systems. Reporting directly to the Backend Engineering Manager, this role focuses on the stability, performance, and reliability of Weave’s AI system. The engineer will develop solutions to customer problems, evaluate their results, and deliver them into production, moving effectively from idea and experimentation through testing and deployment. The role involves understanding customer needs and translating them into simple solutions, collaborating with Product and Design, and writing performant, straightforward code. Weave’s technology stack includes Django, Python, Postgres, and Redis. The engineer will also manage conceptual and technical complexity while delivering value on product projects. Weave’s mission is to improve how therapeutic knowledge is captured, transformed, and communicated throughout drug development. Its platform uses AI to streamline regulatory workflows across the therapeutic lifecycle.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of Django experience in a production environment.
- Experience using LLMs in production.
- Experience interacting directly with LLMs without abstraction libraries.
- Able to move quickly while producing high-quality results.
- Pragmatic, analytical thinking and efficient decision-making.
- Humble, hungry, and smart.
- Experience working at an early-stage, product-based startup with fewer than 50 people.
Nice To Haves
- Experience working on a product in a regulated domain or where data privacy and security were essential.
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a similar field preferred.
Responsibilities
- Understand customer problems and translate them into simple solutions.
- Work with Product and Design to find solutions quickly.
- Write performant, simple code using the Django, Python, Postgres, and Redis stack.
- Manage ongoing conceptual and technical complexity while delivering value on product projects.
- Develop solutions to customer problems, characterize results, and deliver solutions into production.
- Support the stability, performance, and reliability of the AI system.
