About The Position

Coordinate and supervise the overall functions of all security officers throughout Irving ISD. Under general supervision, ensure a high degree of protection, safety, and security for students, personnel, visitors, and property, by coordinating the activities of the district's security officers to the highest standards possible.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Texas DPS-issued valid License to Carry
  • DPS School Safety Firearms Course required or must be obtained within 30 days of employment
  • Level 3 Security License (Armed) required or must be obtained within 6 months of employment
  • Valid Texas driver’s license and proof of insurability with District insurance carrier
  • Five (5) years security experience with demonstrated supervisory skills, preferably in an educational environment
  • Ability to pass a standard fitness exam annually.
  • Ability to pass random drug screenings.
  • Ability to pass a psychological evaluation upon recommendation for hire and every two years.
  • Obtain a passing score (90% +) on a pistol qualification course bi-annually.
  • Knowledge of emergency operations planning.
  • Knowledge of NIMS and FEMA.
  • Knowledge of health and safety programs and applicable laws.
  • Broad knowledge of school safety and security procedures.
  • Ability to lead and supervise staff.
  • Ability to work effectively with campus-based administrators and staff.
  • Knowledge of security computer hardware and software programs related to closed circuit television, controlled access, emergency management, and visitor identification.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws as well as policies and requirements as they relate to students, staff and the school system.
  • Ability to work under pressure in emergency situations and maintain and exhibit emotional control.
  • Ability to clearly communicate in English, both written and verbal

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent years of experience in the related field
  • Law Enforcement Certification

Responsibilities

  • General oversight and daily supervision of the district's security, armed security, and campus auxiliary officers.
  • Coordinate work schedules of campus auxiliary officers and assist in ensuring schools are properly and adequately staffed.
  • Assist the Director of School Safety and Security in creating and implementing safety and security plans, in cooperation with the Irving Police Department or other law enforcement agencies.
  • Ensure all routine paperwork is completed and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Assess emergency situations as they occur, reporting information to the Director of School Safety and Security and/or on-duty management.
  • Assist the Emergency Management Coordinator in conducting annual crisis management tabletop training with campus crisis teams, campus auxiliary officers, and SRO’s.
  • Maintain the ability to work a variety of shifts, changing on short notice and fill-in as needed to cover absences within the campus auxiliary officer program.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the Director of School Safety and Security regarding District activities; and provide input and feedback regarding day-to-day operations of all security officers.
  • Maintain professional standards of conduct for all assigned personnel.
  • Ensure assigned personnel wear the appropriate uniform at all times during working hours, utilize proper radio and telephone etiquette, and abide by time-keeping procedures.
  • Ensure assigned personnel adhere to the arrival and departure schedule of assigned campus.
  • Assist Director of School Safety and Security in evaluating candidates, interviewing, hiring, and conducting annual evaluations of the district’s security officers.
  • Conduct monthly safety and informational staff meetings, and routine on-the-job training.
  • Assist in coordinating additional certification training for the district’s security officers, as needed.
  • Establish and maintain a professional rapport with resource officers and staff; exhibit behavior that is professional, ethical, and responsible; and serve as a role model and maintain professional standards of conduct with students, personnel, parents, and visitors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
