Flex Teacher/In-House Sub 2026-2027 (Southeast Campus)

Highline AcademyDenver, CO
Onsite

About The Position

Highline Academy is seeking a dedicated Flex Teacher/In-House Sub for the 2026-2027 school year at the Southeast Campus. This role is crucial for minimizing disruption to student learning throughout the academic year. Flex Teachers may be assigned to long-term substitute roles for planned leaves (e.g., maternity leave), unplanned leaves, or unexpected terminations. They may also be asked to cover for teachers on short-term absences due to illness or other reasons, potentially on a day-to-day basis. In addition to substituting, Flex Teachers may be required to provide additional supervision, proctor assessments, or assist wherever needed across the school as directed by the Campus Principal. This position involves collaborating with grade-level peers to deliver a rigorous and supportive curriculum for all students, taking on all duties and roles of the teacher they are covering. Flex Teachers may be responsible for entering grades into the school's learning management system based on standards-aligned assessments. If assigned a Teaching Assistant, the Flex Teacher is expected to provide appropriate assignments, guidance on working with students, and direction for classroom tasks. Building positive relationships with students and maintaining high expectations are key. Teachers are expected to manage their classes using positive, proactive systems, strong rituals, and routines. They should also seek support from colleagues and administrators (SIT team, admin, other grade-level teachers) when students face behavioral or academic challenges. Highline Academy emphasizes a student-first approach, and Flex Teachers are foundational to this philosophy. They are expected to contribute to regular classroom newsletters, engage parents through volunteer opportunities and class events (like literacy or math days), and build family relationships via phone calls and meetings. Ensuring all families attend the bi-annual student conferences is also a responsibility. Teachers are expected to participate in at least three evening or weekend events, such as music performances, the Cultural Fair, and the Fall Festival. Attendance and active participation in all professional development sessions assigned by the principal are mandatory.
