About The Position

Requirements

• Proficiency in basic written and spoken English.
• Graduation from an appropriately accredited school of professional nursing, or qualifying nursing education as described in the announcement.
• Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. state, territory, commonwealth, or the District of Columbia, except for the stated Graduate Nurse Technician exception.
• Meet the education, nursing experience, and grade-specific scope and dimension criteria for the grade sought.
• One full and unrestricted license from a U.S. state or territory.
• U.S. citizenship, except that non-citizens may be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy.
• Pass a pre-employment physical evaluation.
• Complete annual Employee Health requirements, such as annual TB screening or testing.
• Participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program.
• Meet pre-employment screening, onboarding, identification, and background/security investigation requirements; applicants tentatively selected for testing-designated positions are subject to urinalysis.
• Males born after December 31, 1959, must meet Selective Service registration requirements.
• Be capable of working effectively in stressful situations and shifting priorities based on patient needs.
• Meet the physical requirements of the position, including visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity, and the ability to perform prolonged walking, standing, stooping, sitting, bending, pulling, and pushing; patient or object transfers may be required.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients by collecting pertinent information, determining diagnoses, problems, or concerns, and prioritizing those requiring immediate care.
• Identify expected outcomes and develop collaborative, individualized plans of care.
• Deliver fundamental, knowledge-based care to assigned patients while developing technical skills.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care based on age-specific components.
• Coordinate care with a focus on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
• Administer medications and perform procedures in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to influence care outcomes.
• Integrate biopsychosocial concepts, cognitive skills, and technically competent practice in patient care.
• Plan practice deliberately and set goals independently when managing complex patient situations.
• Demonstrate respect for patients’ cultural and spiritual values.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Provide alternating weekend and holiday coverage.
