About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in accordance with the healthcare organization’s established policies, procedures, and protocols. The role is in the 12-bed Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) at UAB St. Vincent’s East, which cares for patients of all ages with complex cardiac and pulmonary conditions. The position offers full-time day or night schedules, each consisting of three 12-hour shifts. The CICU is described as a fast-paced environment with cutting-edge technology, flexible scheduling, and a supportive team.

Requirements

• Obtain a Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider credential within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Obtain an Advanced Life Support credential within 180 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Hold an Associate Professional Registered Nurse credential from the Alabama Board of Nursing before hire or job transfer.
• Graduate from an accredited school or college of nursing.
• Have the required professional licensure at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care in accordance with established organizational policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans.
• Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
• Serve as the primary coordinator of all disciplines to support well-coordinated patient care.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patient discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
