RN - Registered Nurse - CVICU - Multiple Shifts
About The Position
The Registered Nurse will provide direct nursing care in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham. The 17-bed unit cares for critically ill patients recovering from complex cardiothoracic, vascular, and cardiac procedures. It is a fast-paced critical care environment with opportunities for collaboration, continuing education, and leadership development. The nurse implements and monitors patient care plans, monitors and communicates patient condition, coordinates care across disciplines, carries out physician and nursing orders, and works with the healthcare team on discharge planning. Available schedules include full-time nights, part-time nights, and PRN nights, with shifts from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Eligible positions offer benefits including paid time off, paid parental leave, an Associate Assistance Program, and tuition reimbursement.
Requirements
- Diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing.
- Professional licensure required at the time of hire.
- Alabama Registered Nurse credential from the Alabama Board of Nursing, obtained before the hire date or job transfer date.
- BLS Provider certification obtained within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certifications accepted.
- Advanced Life Support certification obtained within 180 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certifications accepted.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care according to the healthcare organization's established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Implement and monitor patient care plans.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
- Serve as a primary coordinator across disciplines to support well-coordinated patient care.
- Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patient discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
