About The Position
The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at UAB St. Vincent’s Birmingham. The position is available as full-time day or night work, with a 7:00 to 7:00 schedule. The 1South ICU has 18 beds, and the Medical ICU has 11 beds. The units emphasize team cohesiveness, accessible patient care supervisors on weekdays, visible leadership, and a supportive teaching environment that welcomes new graduates and ensures staff are not left to manage care alone.
Requirements
- Alabama Registered Nurse licensure from the Alabama Board of Nursing, obtained before the hire date or job transfer date.
- Diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing.
- BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
- Advanced Life Support certification within 180 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care in accordance with the healthcare organization’s established policies, procedures, and protocols.
- Implement and monitor patient care plans.
- Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
- Serve as a primary coordinator among disciplines to support well-coordinated patient care.
- Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
- Assess and coordinate patient discharge-planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
