About The Position

The Registered Nurse provides direct nursing care in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) at UAB St. Vincent’s East. This 8-bed unit specializes in post-operative care for patients recovering from coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and other complex cardiovascular surgeries. The role offers opportunities to work with advanced cardiac support devices and procedures, including hemodynamic monitoring, while delivering high-quality care.

The schedule is full-time days, consisting of three 12-hour shifts from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.

Requirements

• Obtain BLS Provider certification within 30 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Obtain Advanced Life Support certification within 180 days of hire or job transfer; American Heart Association or American Red Cross certification is accepted.
• Hold an Alabama Board of Nursing Licensed Associate Professional Registered Nurse credential before hire or job transfer.
• Have a diploma from an accredited school or college of nursing and required professional licensure at the time of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct nursing care in accordance with the healthcare organization’s established policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Implement and monitor patient care plans; monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate.
• Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines to support well-coordinated patient care.
• Note and carry out physician and nursing orders.
• Assess and coordinate patient discharge-planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
