Production Supervisor β€” A-Line & Sub Assembly

Sherman and Reilly Incβ€’Chattanooga, TN
β€’Onsite

About The Position

Sherman + Reilly is North America's leading manufacturer of transmission and distribution line-stringing equipment for the electric utility industry. From our Chattanooga headquarters, we design and build pullers, bullwheel tensioners, puller-tensioners, pilot line winders, underground pullers, reel trailers, reel stands, and stringing blocks β€” engineered for safety and built to last. We're looking for a Production Supervisor who wants real ownership of a department, not just a title.

Requirements

  • 3+ years in a manufacturing, fabrication, or assembly environment
  • Prior supervisory or lead experience β€” you've owned other people's performance, not just your own
  • Ability to read and interpret assembly drawings, work instructions, and BOMs
  • Comfort with ERP/MRP systems for production tracking (SAP a plus, not required)
  • Strong communication skills β€” you can have the hard conversation, and you document it
  • A track record of managing shifting priorities under pressure without losing sight of quality

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in utility, heavy equipment, or electro-mechanical assembly
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or structured continuous-improvement methods
  • SAP experience in a production environment
  • Experience leading union employees and working within a CBA
  • A track record of developing individual contributors into reliable, accountable team members
  • Exposure to both assembly and sub-assembly, and how upstream work affects downstream quality

Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations across A-Line and Sub Assembly, measured on four things: safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency.
  • Open each shift with a clear plan, what's being built, what's staged, what has to get solved before it stops production
  • Monitor pace against the plan in real time and adjust before problems become misses, not after
  • Coordinate material readiness with warehouse and planning before work orders hit the floor
  • Escalate parts shortages, quality issues, and engineering discrepancies through the right channels, with the right documentation
  • Own the quality of every unit leaving your department before it moves to the Test Field and Final Detail
  • Build and document standard work for both departments β€” if it isn't written down, it isn't a standard
  • Bring specific, actionable process improvements to the Operations Manager, and support Manufacturing Engineering on new product builds
  • Report daily production status clearly β€” completed units, open work orders, and risks to tomorrow's plan
  • Lead, mentor, and hold accountable a team of assemblers across both departments
  • Cross-train your team so the department doesn't depend on any one person
  • Address performance issues directly and professionally, partnering with HR when needed
  • Run regular one-on-ones and team meetings β€” not just when something's wrong
  • Build a culture where your team brings you problems instead of working around you
  • Maintain a safe work environment where OSHA compliance is the floor, not the ceiling, and people raise safety concerns without hesitation
