About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED/equivalent.
• Licensure as a Pharmacy Technician by the Maryland Board of Pharmacy.
• PTCB or NHA Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification.
• PTCB Advanced Certification (CPhT-Adv) or an appropriate PTCB certificate, such as Medication History or Sterile Compounding.
• At least 3 years of experience in a hospital setting involving automated distribution systems, decentralized pharmacy services, and sterile compounding.
• Working knowledge of USP 795, 797, and 800.
• Advanced experience specific to the area appropriate to the role responsibilities, such as medication history or sterile compounding.

Nice To Haves

• Previous experience with Cerner, Pyxis, Pharmogistics, or carousels.

Responsibilities

• Oversee and perform, with pharmacist supervision, designated operations involving sterile compounding, automation, technology and information systems, controlled-substance dispensing, and diversion prevention.
• Capture and document medication histories for patients admitted to the hospital.
• Obtain complete medication information by interacting with patients and family members and consulting other available sources.
• Maintain current knowledge of applicable regulatory and practice standards and apply them to medication-history work.
• Generate reports, communicate and interact with other professionals and disciplines, and maintain vendor relationships.
• Perform duties of Pharmacy Technician I and II positions.
• Mentor and train Pharmacy Technician I and II staff.
• Maintain medication-counseling knowledge and skills and interact directly with patients.
• Review patient records and discuss current medications with nurses, pharmacists, and providers.
