About The Position

University of Maryland Medical Center (UMMC) is seeking a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or a Physician Assistant (PA) with a desire to join our multidisciplinary team in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The Children’s Hospital at UMMC offers comprehensive services for patients across the spectrum of acute care, including a pediatric ED, pediatric cardiac ICU, pediatric ICU & progressive care unit, a complex labor and delivery unit, ambulatory care services, and a 52-bed NICU. UMMC provides 'Top of the Class' Academic Medicine for critically ill neonatal patients. The APP will provide highly intensive care to critically ill babies in a Level IV NICU, utilizing a specialized transport team, state-of-the-art technologies, and world-class high-risk OB, Neonatology, and Subspecialty teams. The APP Team provides 24/7 coverage for NICU patients, responsible for daily patient management, leadership, and resource support for the provider team, and serves as an educational resource for nursing, medical staff, and families. Medical plans and decisions are made in collaboration with attending physicians, using evidence-based interventions and current best practices. The APP and Neonatal fellow function collaboratively to support patients within the division of neonatology. The role also includes coverage for the neonatal transport team through the Maryland Regional Neonatal Transport Program (MRNTP). In addition to clinical responsibilities, all APPs participate in professional practice activities. Schedule accommodations will be made and negotiated as needed.

Requirements

  • Completed an accredited Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) or Physician Assistant (PA) program.
  • Successfully completed NNP/PA Certification.
  • NCC (National Certification Corporation) for NNPs is required.
  • NCCPA (National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants) for PAs is required.
  • Solid clinical experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a multidisciplinary team.
  • Maryland licensure or eligibility is required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of neonatal nursing experience for NNP candidates is required.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of work in a NICU/FTN for PA candidates or successful completion of Neonatal PA Residency/Fellowship is required.
