About The Position

Requirements

• Postsecondary certificate, diploma, or program graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
• Registered Nurse (RN) state licensure and/or compact state licensure in the state of practice, required upon hire.
• Basic Life Support (BCLS), required upon hire.
• Knowledge of medications and correct administration based on patient age and clinical condition.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Ability to organize tasks, develop action plans, set priorities, and function under stressful situations.
• Ability to maintain a good working relationship within the department and with other departments.
• Fluent reading, writing, and speaking skills in English.

Nice To Haves

• Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), preferred upon hire.
• Six months of Medical/Surgical nursing experience in an acute care setting.
• Experience demonstrating critical thinking, decision-making, and effective prioritization in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver direct and indirect patient care through assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
• Develop and coordinate nursing care plans with patients, families, and interdisciplinary staff; revise plans as indicated by patient response and evaluate their effectiveness daily.
• Communicate changes in patients’ clinical conditions to physicians, nursing supervisors or managers, and coworkers.
• Participate in discharge planning and communicate with Social Service or the Discharge Planner regarding in-hospital and post-discharge needs.
• Maintain nursing care standards and implement hospital and nursing department policies and procedures.
• Direct, supervise, provide, and evaluate nursing care; assign or delegate tasks according to patient needs, task complexity and potential for harm, and staff scope of practice, capabilities, and qualifications.
• Complete admission assessments, reassessments, referrals, care plans, and other required documentation in the medical record.
• Assess and reassess pain, use appropriate pain-management techniques, and educate patients and families about pain management.
• Provide age-specific patient care and identify needs based on patient status and age.
• Receive physician orders, verify accurate transcription, and document completion.
• Administer medications using the five rights of medication administration to reduce the potential for errors.
• Develop and evaluate teaching plans based on identified learning needs, including family as appropriate.
• Assist physicians with examinations, treatments, and special procedures, and perform services and treatments within scope of practice and level of licensure.
• Treat patients and families with respect and dignity; identify and address psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious or spiritual needs; and serve as a liaison among administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.
• Maintain an environment that promotes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical or healthcare errors; initiate or assist with emergency measures when a patient’s condition suddenly worsens.
• Answer telephones, paging systems, and patient call lights; anticipate patient needs, make rounds, and respond appropriately.
• Consult other departments as appropriate to support an interdisciplinary approach to patient needs.
• Provide end-of-shift report, count narcotics, complete documentation, and sign off physician orders.
• Communicate appropriately and clearly with management, coworkers, and physicians.
• Participate in orientation and instruction or training of new personnel.
• Manage and operate equipment safely and correctly.
• Maintain good and regular attendance and perform other related duties as assigned.
