Transportation Operations Technician I

About The Position
The Agency of Transportation is seeking a Transportation Operations Technician I. This entry-level position is responsible for various highway maintenance tasks, including repairing guardrails, cutting trees/brush, patching roads, picking litter, and ditching. During winter months, the technician will also assist with plowing and salting, which may require overtime. The role offers excellent benefits, career development opportunities, and a CDL training program. A sign-on and retention bonus of up to $2000 is available for newly hired CDL and non-CDL holders in permanent maintenance worker or mechanic jobs hired on or after July 13, 2025.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- A valid driver's license is required
- Must live within reasonable proximity of assigned workstation
- Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is required for the successful completion of original probation
- Must complete all VTTC required coursework within six (6) months or be enrolled
- Participation in a random drug and alcohol-testing program is required prior to operation of vehicles or operating equipment
- Considerable overtime work is required, particularly during the winter months, and is considered a condition of employment
