About The Position

This position involves installing, maintaining, servicing, and troubleshooting new and existing commercial, industrial, clinical, and laboratory plumbing systems and components. The role also includes providing evaluations and recommendations for the plumbing preventive maintenance program to ensure services are up-to-date and compliant. Responsibilities extend to preparing stock orders for purchasing, responding to emergency mechanical system calls, and resolving minor Electrical, HVAC, and maintenance issues to support facility needs. The General Mechanic must adhere to department and University policies and procedures and perform all other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Must have a valid Massachusetts Journeyman plumber license.
  • 3+ years of experience in commercial or industrial facilities maintenance.
  • Working knowledge to handle basic electrical, HVAC, and maintenance issues.
  • Physical ability to tour buildings, access confined and overhead spaces, walk stairs, work from ladders, and lift heavy items up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have own set of hand tools.
  • Ability to speak, read, comprehend, and write fluently in the English language.
  • Must have and maintain a valid Massachusetts drivers license.
  • Must successfully pass background check as determined by the University at the time of hire and continue to meet standards of the background check throughout period of employment.
  • Ability to remain compliant with University policies.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working on renovation projects preferred.
  • Master Plumber license
  • Sprinkler Fitters license/HVAC experience

Responsibilities
