About The Position

Requirements

• Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate; qualifying documented experience, military service, or ASE certification may be substituted as specified in the posting.
• No prior experience is required.
• Possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in Maryland and list the license number and expiration date on the application.
• Obtain a Class B CDL within six months of appointment.
• Obtain special commercial driver’s license endorsements for hazardous materials and tank vehicles if required for the equipment operated.
• Successfully complete agency certification programs to be eligible for permanent status.
• Be available for duty as needed, including rotating shifts, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and 24-hour on-call availability; maintain a reliable communication link for emergency call-backs.
• Be able to work outdoors in all types of weather and, when assigned, move objects weighing over 50 pounds.
• Employees who work with or may be exposed to certain hazardous materials may be required to undergo periodic medical testing and be able to wear a respirator.
• Pass pre-employment drug testing.
• Be legally authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Learn to perform routine maintenance and repair on motor vehicles, diesel-powered equipment, and construction or maintenance equipment.
• Help maintain and repair equipment to support continuous facility operations, including during hazardous weather or highway conditions and emergency call-backs.
• Complete agency certification programs required for permanent status in the classification.
