About The Position

As a Petco Certified Dog Trainer, you will further Petco’s mission as a Pet Health and Wellness company by strengthening the bond between pet parents and their dogs. You will use modern dog-training techniques and positive reinforcement to help pet parents develop well-behaved, happy, and healthy dogs. The role includes one-on-one training sessions, group classes, advice on basic training and environmental management, and customized plans for specific training goals. You will also engage with guests to provide personalized solutions for their pets, including recommendations on nutrition, services, and supplies. The role has two core responsibilities: providing dog-training services and offering 360-degree solutions to Petco guests. Trainers attend Petco’s six-week Dog Trainer Instructor Program, complete assigned learning materials, recommend suitable classes and supplies, and maintain records of training sessions and progress. They also support the Pet Care Center through guest service, merchandise and operational duties, and collaboration with grooming and veterinary teams. Certification proceeds in stages: completing the instructor-led six-week Dog Training Instructor Program as a Dog Training Apprentice; successfully running and growing the dog-training business at a Pet Care Center as a Dog Trainer; and completing the Health & Wellness Certification Program for Dog. Candidates with relevant prior experience who pass skill and knowledge assessments may be eligible for accelerated training.
