About The Position

As a Petco Certified Dog Trainer, you will support Petco’s mission as a pet health and wellness company by strengthening the bond between pet parents and their dogs. You will use modern dog-training techniques and positive reinforcement to help pet parents develop well-behaved, happy, and healthy dogs. The role includes one-on-one sessions, group classes, and guidance on basic training, environmental management, and customized training plans. You will also engage with guests to offer personalized solutions for pets and pet parents, including recommendations on nutrition, services, and supplies. The role has two core areas: providing dog-training services and providing 360-degree solutions to Petco guests. Trainers attend and pass Petco’s six-week Dog Trainer Instructor Program, complete assigned learning modules and workbook materials, and continue developing their expertise. They recommend appropriate classes and supplies, maintain training records and confidentiality, and collaborate with grooming and veterinary teams. They also support store operations by assisting guests with merchandise and services, maintaining product displays, completing transactions, and following operational and safety guidelines. The certification pathway includes completing the Dog Training Instructor Program, then running and growing the dog-training business at a Pet Care Center with marketing and internal resources, and completing the Health & Wellness Certification Program for Dog. Candidates with prior experience who pass skill and knowledge assessments may be eligible for accelerated training.
