The Department of Medical Sciences at the University of Wisconsin Madison School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time position within the Small Animal Internal Medicine service at UW Veterinary Care. This position is available at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level in the clinical track or tenure track, tailored to the individual candidate's qualifications and interests. Faculty in this role will contribute to the teaching mission of the school through both clinical and didactic instruction of veterinary students, interns, and residents, as well as through participation in continuing education programs. The successful candidate will also be expected to engage in scholarly activity, whether through clinical research, translational studies, or educational scholarship, that supports academic clinical practice. The new hire will join a collaborative SAIM team currently composed of four clinical track faculty. In addition to faculty, the SAIM team includes 6 residents, 12 rotating interns, 4 certified veterinary technicians, 1 veterinary assistant, and 1 client care liaison. Clinical service responsibilities in UW Veterinary Care (UWVC) include providing high-quality patient care and hands-on training for veterinary students, interns, and residents. Strong communication skills and a commitment to consulting with referring veterinarians and clients are essential. SAIM manages approximately 2,500 cases annually out of the 27,400 small animal patients seen each year at UWVC. The SVM is a collegial, collaborative environment that offers specialty care with board-certified experts in allied services including anesthesia and pain management, cardiology, dentistry and oral surgery, dermatology, diagnostic imaging, internal medicine, neurology, medical and radiation oncology, ophthalmology, anatomic and clinical pathology, primary care, special species, and soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. Additionally, the hospital has a dedicated LCSW who meets with clients and offers support groups. In 2024, UWVC opened a new state-of-the-art hospital. SAIM now has access to an expansive suite of interventional radiology and endoscopy equipment, including new Olympus flexible endoscopes, Storz rigid and resectoscope systems, Ho:YAG, CO2, and diode lasers, PET/CT imaging, a dedicated endoscopy/laparoscopy OR, a vascular IR suite, and standing videofluoroscopic swallow study capabilities. We also offer extracorporeal therapies including intermittent hemodialysis, ultrafiltration, plasmapheresis, and hemoperfusion jointly with the Emergency and Critical Care service. SAIM also treats 1-3 cats weekly with I-131, a service greatly valued by the community. Extensive opportunities for collaborative research and teaching exist within the School of Veterinary Medicine and the UW- Madison campus. The School of Medicine & Public Health, the College of Agriculture & Life Sciences, the School of Pharmacy, the Biotechnology Center, and the School of Education are located within a short distance of the School of Veterinary Medicine on the UWMadison campus. A close relationship also exists with the Wisconsin State Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory which is located within the same footprint on campus as the School of Veterinary Medicine.
