About The Position
The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is establishing a pool of part-time Music Instructors with a Theory/Composition emphasis for the 2027 academic year. When a campus has an opening, the hiring location will review applications in the pool and contact selected applicants. Applicants may indicate which of LACCD’s nine colleges interest them, and qualified applicants may be considered by one or more colleges. Assignments are contingent on enrollment, funding, and class availability. The instructor should be prepared to teach second-year music theory classes and applied composition lessons, fostering engaging, inclusive learning environments. The successful candidate will work professionally with students, staff, faculty, administrators, and community members, and demonstrate cultural responsiveness to people with diverse backgrounds and experiences. Classes may need to be conducted in a virtual learning environment using Canvas or other remote-learning methods.
Requirements
- Master’s degree in music; or a bachelor’s degree in music and a master’s degree in humanities; or the equivalent.
- Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
- All students and employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have an approved exemption under LACCD policy; employees must provide their vaccination status.
Nice To Haves
- Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) in Composition.
- Experience teaching all levels of music theory classes (not fundamentals) and composition lessons at the college level.
- Letters supporting teaching experience.
- Demonstrated certification in Blackboard, Canvas, Course Compass, or other online modalities.
Responsibilities
