About The Position

The Commodity Buyer is accountable for supplier Quality, Delivery, Cost, Feature, Technology, Sustainability, and Risk Management (QDCFTSR) within the Chassis/Vehicle Dynamics segment. The role implements the segment business plan through supplier selection and by continuously securing supplier performance using purchasing tools and cross-functional networks during production and post-production. The position is based in Greensboro, North Carolina, and reports to the Head of CVD Purchasing North America.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of strategic purchasing experience (such as end-to-end supplier relationship management, sourcing, negotiations, and contracts) or business development experience (such as client relationship management and negotiations).
  • Experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • Proven negotiation and communication skills.
  • Strong business acumen and an agile working style.
  • Desire to work collaboratively as part of a team toward a common purpose.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent working experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, negotiate, and implement strategies to improve supply chain performance and product quality, support innovative technology, and maximize value.
  • Drive negotiations and executive agreements with suppliers in the segment.
  • Contribute to the segment business plan and participate actively in the global network of Buyers.
  • Collaborate with the global supply chain to develop and execute global supply chain and technology strategies.
  • Use the Volvo Production System (VPS) toolbox to drive supply chain efficiency.
  • Drive activities to meet Quality, Delivery, Cost, Feature, Technology, Sustainability, and Risk Management (QDCFTSR) targets.
  • Monitor, identify, and mitigate risks in cooperation with the Supply Network Quality (SNQ) team.
  • Forecast cost evolution for the scope of responsibility.
  • Manage and negotiate product and process changes during production and post-production.
  • Perform daily purchasing activities related to production orders, logistics, and financial flows to suppliers.
