About The Position

Speak's mission is to reinvent language learning by building a human-level, AI-powered tutor that offers a conversation-first experience with instant feedback and carefully designed lessons. Launched in South Korea in 2019, Speak is now the number one language learning app in that market and serves learners across many markets and 15+ languages. The company has raised over $150m in venture investment from prominent investors like OpenAI, Accel, Founders Fund, and Khosla Ventures, and operates with a distributed team across San Francisco, Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, and Ljubljana. Speak is seeking a part-time remote Bilingual English/Spanish Learning Designer (Contractor) to join its content team. This role involves creating high-quality language learning materials for LATAM users. The ideal candidate will have native or near-native bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English, a deep understanding of spoken fluency development, and experience in developing, editing, or localizing innovative, engaging, and pedagogically sound online or in-app learning materials. This is a part-time, fully remote contract role requiring 20 hours of availability per week.

Requirements

  • Native Spanish speaker (LATAM Spanish) with near-native English proficiency in both spoken and written communication.
  • 3+ years of professional learning design or curriculum design experience, with hands-on experience designing learning experiences for a product or platform (not solely classroom instruction).
  • Experience in edtech, app-based learning, or a closely related field (e.g., digital learning platforms, game-based learning, corporate L&D with a digital delivery component).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with AI tools for content production.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially for accuracy, tone, and consistency when QA-ing content in two languages.
  • Self-directed and a quick learner, with a lot of ownership over work within an established pipeline.
  • Strong creative judgment to steer AI output and bring original ideas.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with translation and localization workflows, particularly localizing English content into Spanish.
  • Familiarity with spoken fluency development or conversation-focused learning design.
  • Prior experience working with AI-generated content in a production environment (not just personal experimentation).
  • Experience working remotely with international or US-based teams across time zones.

Responsibilities

  • Curriculum design and lesson writing: Design learning materials (lesson scripts, activities, unit summaries) for learners at varying proficiency levels across the Spanish-English language pair. Participate in content projects from planning through writing, production, and launch.
  • Content QA across both languages: Review and quality-check content in both Spanish and English, catching errors in language accuracy, pedagogical soundness, tone, and formatting.
  • AI-assisted content production: Use AI tools to accelerate drafting and localization workflows. Guide AI output with creative judgment, shaping it into something that meets Speak's quality bar and recognizing when it needs a human touch.
  • Translation and localization: Translate and localize in-app learning and marketing content into LATAM Spanish, ensuring cultural and linguistic appropriateness.
  • Content iteration: Revise and polish content based on QA feedback, user testing results, and peer reviews.
  • Collaboration: Work remotely with a US-based team. Participate in content team syncs and discussions as needed; contribute insights about the LATAM learner market.

Benefits

  • Join a fantastic, tight-knit team at a time of rapid growth, having recently raised Series C funding and achieved product-market fit in initial markets, offering significant individual impact.
  • Opportunity to do life's work with enjoyable and respected colleagues, fostering daily growth and a strong craft-oriented culture.
  • Work in a global company live in over 40 countries, with dedicated offices in San Francisco, Ljubljana, Seoul, and Tokyo, providing opportunities to interact with users globally and travel.
  • Impact people's lives significantly by helping millions achieve their life-changing goal of learning a language, addressing a broken process.
