About The Position

This position is responsible for coordinating trailer and tanker traffic in the receiving yard and maintaining a log of product loads while maintaining a safe work environment and adhering to Tyson policies and procedures. Tasks include performing various positions as required/assigned, receiving training, and maintaining a clean work area. The role requires operating a yard truck safely, moving trailers, communicating with drivers and dispatch, setting reefer units, checking reefer unit functionality, chocking trailers, reporting leaks, and performing pre-inspections on the shuttle truck. Lot checks may also be requested by management.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have a current valid State driver’s license
  • Must pass Tyson Yard/Lot Driver Assessment
  • Must have ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Must be able to shovel
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders up to 60 feet
  • Must be able to bend, stretch, reach
  • Must be able to work in extreme hot, cold, inclement weather, and odors
  • Must be able to use basic hand tools and perform basic mechanical and maintenance functions
  • Must be able to read to complete required logs
  • Must be able to communicate with supervisor and co-workers via two-way radio
  • Must be willing to tolerate extreme cold and extreme heat (12 hours per day)
  • Must be willing to bend at waist and knees on a repetitive basis (12 hours per day)
  • Must be willing to twist and turn (12 hours per day)
  • Must be willing to climb in and out of truck cab on a continual basis (12 hours per day)
  • Must be willing to walk a great deal (12 hours per day)
  • Must not have any DUI/DWI convictions within the last 12 months
  • Must have 6 months experience of tractor-trailer driving within the last 2 years

Nice To Haves

  • Rehire criteria is a minimum waiting period of 180 days.
  • Rehire Rule of no more than 3 times worked at Tyson Foods.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and promote the Tyson safety culture
  • Receive training as required
  • Perform various positions as required/assigned
  • Coordinate trailer and tanker traffic in the receiving yard
  • Maintain log of product loads
  • Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to Tyson policies and procedures
  • Operate yard truck in a safe manner at all times by following all safety procedures
  • Move correct trailer from yard to door and door to yard
  • Communicate with drivers in a respectful manner
  • Set reefer units at appropriate settings
  • Check to see if reefer units will start
  • Communicate with dispatcher and follow instructions
  • Chock trailers
  • Report any fuel or oil leaks to maintenance
  • Ensure breaks are staggered
  • Maintain cleanliness of the shuttle truck
  • Perform pre-inspection for safety and mechanical defects on shuttle truck at beginning of shift
  • Perform lot checks as requested by management
  • May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
  • May be required to operate front-end loader, man lift, or forklift and will be required to obtain certification to do so
