About The Position

Requirements

• Successful completion of a Medical Assistant Program or 6-month Nurse Aide Program.
• Completion of venipuncture class.
• Current BCLS certification.
• Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
• Basic computer knowledge.
• Must be able to learn quickly.
• Must be easily accessible for coverage whenever someone is out.

Nice To Haves

• Additional languages preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct patient care under the supervision of an RN/LPN/LVN and/or physician, evaluates outcomes, and consults with other health team members as required.
• Assists nursing and medical staff with routine examinations and patient treatments for neonate, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric patients, and the general patient population.
• Notifies appropriate licensed personnel when a patient complains of pain.
• Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for the patient's age.
• Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care.
• Carries out medical and surgical asepsis during treatments and special procedures.
• Positions and preps patients for office procedures.
• Communicates appropriately and clearly to coworkers, physicians, and the Office Manager.
• Assists physicians with procedures and performs services requiring technical and manual skills under the direction of an RN/LPN/LVN and/or physician.
• Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity, identifying and addressing psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs.
• Interacts professionally with patients and families, involving them in patient education.
• Maintains infection control standards for exam/procedure rooms, including cleaning, disinfecting, and changing linen.
• Maintains office instruments and is knowledgeable of sterilization techniques and biological indicators.
• Meets current documentation standards and policies.
• Maintains established office policies and procedures, objectives, performance improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
• Maintains a safe, comfortable, and therapeutic environment for patients and families.
• Answers telephone calls professionally, directs calls appropriately, refers patient problems to the office physician, and schedules patient appointments.
• Ensures an adequate stock of supplies.
• Assists in cost containment through appropriate ordering and conserving of supplies and equipment.
• Maintains a good working relationship with all staff members.
• Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly, performing preventative maintenance.
• Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized, and function under stressful situations.
• Responds appropriately in emergency or physically distressing situations.
• Performs other duties as assigned within the medical assistant's scope of practice.
