About The Position

Requirements

• Must hold or be eligible for a Georgia Clear renewable certificate.
• Bachelor’s degree in an approved special education—general curriculum program, or a major in special education.

Nice To Haves

• Master’s degree or higher in an approved Special Education program.
• Highly qualified in Mathematics.
• Teaching certification.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct and indirect instructional support to students in a positive environment.
• Use special education strategies and techniques to support the development of sensory and perceptual motor skills, language, cognition, and memory.
• Teach academic subjects using varied techniques, including phonetics, multisensory learning, and repetition, to reinforce learning and meet students’ needs and interests.
• Teach socially acceptable behavior as identified in students’ IEPs, using an overall positive behavioral support system.
• Modify the general education curriculum for students with disabilities using varied instructional techniques and technologies.
• Plan and conduct balanced instructional activities that allow students to observe, question, and investigate.
• Establish and enforce behavior rules and procedures that maintain an environment conducive to learning.
• Meet with parents to discuss students’ progress and determine priorities and individualized educational needs.
• Confer with parents, administrators, testing specialists, professional counselors, and other professionals to develop IEPs supporting students’ educational, physical, and social/emotional development.
• Maintain accurate and complete student records and prepare required reports on students and activities.
• Establish clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects and communicate them to students.
• Develop plans for communication, monitoring, and follow-up for students in inclusive classroom settings.
• Provide crisis intervention for students and inclusive classrooms as needed.
• Assist in collecting data for appropriate classroom interventions.
• Serve on a multidisciplinary team as appropriate.
• Assist in preparing data for local, state, and federal reports.
• Maintain professional competence through staff development, curriculum development meetings, and other professional opportunities.
• Perform other related work as required.
