Requirements

• Degree in education or a related area that qualifies for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction.
• Ability to use a variety of equipment and classroom tools such as computers, copiers, typewriters, calculators, pencils, scissors, and equipment for children with special needs.
• Ability to exert a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
• Physical requirements consistent with Light Work due to amount of time spent standing and/or walking.
• Ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people or things.
• Ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information, including receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors.
• Ability to read a variety of correspondence, reports, handbooks, forms, lists, etc.
• Ability to prepare correspondence, simple reports, forms, instructional materials, etc., using a prescribed format.

Responsibilities

• Manage instructional time by having materials, supplies, and equipment ready, starting lessons quickly, and maintaining a high level of student time-on-task.
• Manage student behavior by establishing clear rules and procedures for routine matters, verbal participation, movement, and transitions, and by promptly and consistently addressing inappropriate behavior.
• Present instruction by reviewing previous materials, introducing new lessons and objectives, speaking fluently and precisely, using understandable language and relevant examples, assigning tasks with a high success rate, asking appropriate questions, pacing lessons effectively, making smooth transitions, clarifying assignments, and summarizing main points.
• Monitor student performance by maintaining clear work standards, circulating during class work, routinely checking progress through various work products, and posing questions clearly.
• Provide instructional feedback to encourage student growth, offering prompt feedback on assigned work, affirming correct responses, and providing sustaining feedback after incorrect responses.
• Facilitate instruction by having an instructional plan compatible with school and system-wide goals, using diagnostic information to revise objectives and tasks, maintaining accurate student performance records, aligning objectives, strategies, assessment, and student needs, and utilizing available resources.
• Interact effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and the community in a fair and equitable manner.
• Perform non-instructional duties as assigned, adhere to laws, policies, rules, and regulations, and demonstrate growth through professional development.
• Coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants.
• Constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly during inclusive activities.
