About The Position

The Kitchen Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily preparation and lunch service for students, managing all aspects of nutrition services in the assigned school building. This includes ordering, receiving, storing, and managing the inventory of food supplies according to school menus and district policies, as well as performing quality control on food products. The role involves handling and preparing food in compliance with safety standards, managing kitchen staff's time, and training and supervising them in food preparation, service, equipment use, maintenance, and cleaning procedures. The manager must maintain a clean and safe kitchen and servery, inspect supplies, and monitor sanitation. A key responsibility is providing safe and appropriate meal accommodations for students with special diets, collaborating with families, nursing staff, and other personnel. The position requires adherence to district ethics, federal and state regulations, and maintaining confidentiality. The Kitchen Manager is expected to provide a high level of service, develop positive professional relationships, serve as a positive role model, and handle complaints and conflicts.

Requirements

  • ServSafe certification (Gretna Public Schools will pay for it).
  • School Nutrition Association membership (Gretna Public Schools will pay for it).

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily preparation and lunch service to students, managing all aspects of nutrition services in the assigned school building.
  • Order, receive, store, and manage the inventory of food supplies in accordance with school menus and district policies.
  • Perform quality control by inspecting raw and cooked product.
  • Analyze services or processes to evaluate and improve service or performance.
  • Handle and prepare food of all types according to food safety standards and regulations.
  • Manage one's own time and the time of kitchen staff.
  • Train, supervise, and coordinate the activities of kitchen staff including food preparation, service of food, equipment use and maintenance, and all cleaning procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and safe kitchen and servery area.
  • Inspect supplies, maintain equipment, and monitor sanitation practices to ensure conformance to establish standards.
  • Provide safe and appropriate meal accommodations for students with special diets, preventing cross-contamination and other risks.
  • Collaborate with students, families, nursing staff, and other personnel as needed in this process.
  • Adhere to the code of ethics of the District for non-certificated staff.
  • Provide a high level of service to students and school staff.
  • Develop and maintain positive, professional working relationships with students, parents, building staff, and colleagues within the department.
  • Serve as a positive role model for staff and students.
  • Maintain all kitchen and temperature logs.
  • Record production and operational data on specified computer applications.
  • Adhere to all federal and state USDA regulations and State and local food codes.
  • Adhere to all District policies, rules, regulations, and supervisory directives.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information concerning staff, students, and parents in accordance with law and District rules.
  • Handle complaints, settle disputes, and resolve grievances and conflicts, or otherwise negotiate with others.
  • Communicate appropriately and fully as required.
  • Perform other tasks or duties as assigned by the Director of Nutrition Services, Principal, or other supervisors.
