About The Position

Requirements

• High school graduate.
• Six months of security-related training.
• NYS Security Guard License issued by the NYS Department of State.

Responsibilities

• Assigns daily assignments and posts to Security personnel based on established priorities or departmental needs.
• Supervises subordinate personnel in the field and office during the designated tour and adjusts assignments during emergencies.
• Instructs Security personnel in their duties and tests their knowledge of responsibilities.
• Conducts periodic performance evaluations and makes recommendations for promotion.
• Schedules and approves vacations and requests for days off.
• Ensures sufficient personnel are trained for assignments requiring specific skills and apportions workloads among tour members.
• Oversees the distribution, use, serviceability, and proper care of Security Department equipment, including alarms.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of assignments and personnel training needs; reports deficiencies to the Director of Security or Security Operations Manager.
• Provides input on policy development for day-to-day Security Department operations and implements existing policies, procedures, directives, and orders.
• Ensures incident reports are prepared for significant security-related incidents and reviews incident, theft, and supervisors’ activity reports for completeness and accuracy.
• Prepares investigative reports concerning neglect of duty or improper performance and initiates disciplinary action when warranted.
• Examines departmental records for completeness and accuracy and inspects the general appearance of Security personnel.
• Initiates or reviews requests for uniform replacement.
• Cooperates with other departments and agencies and keeps Mount Sinai departments informed of conditions affecting them.
• Maintains working knowledge of Security Department operations personnel in emergencies and responds to and directs personnel in serious situations.
• Supervises distribution and security requirements for employee paychecks.
• Conducts grievance hearings as required.
• Maintains adequate staffing and equitable distribution of posts, overtime, and time off.
• Supervises proactive security operations, including security reminders, positive contacts, and security education and crime prevention.
• Ensures force training through routine quality assurance evaluations and formal and informal training opportunities.
• Improves morale and the workplace environment by addressing uniform and equipment needs, appearance standards, and work-site and locker-room cleanliness and maintenance.
• Improves tour communication by coordinating a semiannual program for field supervisors and coordinators to meet with tour members and exchange ideas.
• Provides input on operational issues, completes timely and considered subordinate evaluations, and takes positive steps to recognize and resolve complaints.
• Maintains liaison with non-security personnel during serious situations and ensures complete reporting and documentation.
