We are seeking part- and full-time Safety & Security Officers responsible for ensuring the safety and security of residents, staff, visitors, vendors, and property. This role serves as the first responder to emergencies and provides support to Independent Living residents as needed. Officers represent the community during each shift by delivering professional, courteous service while maintaining a calm, alert presence. This is an essential personnel position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of two (2) years related experience in security or safety.
  • Valid Virginia driver’s license with no restrictions.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification required.
  • DCJS Armed or Unarmed Security Officer Certification required.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to respond quickly and remain calm in emergencies.
  • Basic computer skills for reporting, logs, and systems.
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods and perform patrol duties.
  • Flexible availability including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must pass background check and pre-employment screening.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a 24/7 environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine interior and exterior patrols to ensure safety of residents, staff, visitors, and property.
  • Monitor entrances, common areas, CCTV, and alarm systems for safety and security concerns.
  • Respond immediately to emergencies (medical, fire, security) and follow established protocols.
  • Serve as first responder to resident emergency call systems and coordinate with nursing or EMS as needed.
  • Assist clinical staff during resident emergencies when required.
  • Control and document building access, ensuring proper ID, visitor check-in, and credential verification.
  • Complete incident reports, logs, and shift documentation accurately and promptly.
  • Report safety hazards, suspicious activity, and incidents to management.
  • Provide dispatch support for emergency and non-emergency calls and coordinate response.
  • Support resident safety checks and campus-wide safety procedures.
  • Maintain a professional, calm, customer-service-focused presence at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
