About The Position

The Los Angeles Convention Center, located in the heart of vibrant downtown LA, is a leading venue for conventions, trade shows, and exhibitions. The center is committed to delivering excellent service and exceeding expectations for clients and guests at every event. This position is for a full-time, unionized Building Operating Engineer.

Requirements

  • Must be a Union Member.
  • Possess the City of Los Angeles five hundred (500) horsepower steam license (for Certified Engineer).
  • Possess the EPA 608 Universal Certification (for Certified Engineer).

Responsibilities

  • In a safe and efficient manner, determine the sequence required to install, maintain, adjust, modify and perform major overhaul and repair of air conditioning, refrigeration, heating and ventilating systems, such as; absorption heater/chiller, centrifugal chiller, ice makers, walk-in freezer/refrigerator, carbon monoxide monitoring system.
  • Perform calibration of all electrical and pneumatic control components, by interpreting blueprints, manufacturer and LACC specifications written and verbal.
  • Operate, maintain, and make minor repairs on facility equipment such as; absorption heater/chiller, building automation system, air dryers and domestic hot water heater.
  • Repair, maintain, troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance and repairs of equipment such as; walk-in freezer/refrigerator, reach-in freezer/refrigerator, air handler system (exhaust ventilation, return air systems), direct expansion package system, split systems, water treatment of open and closed loop systems, cooling towers, circulating pumps.
  • Conduct routine visual inspection of equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment such as changing oil, air/water filters, system water, cleaning and lubricating and adjusting equipment.
  • Operate and maintain building HVAC, lighting and Fire Life Safety Automation systems.
  • Complete daily work activity reports, sign off of all completed work requests and make all daily logbook entries.
  • Inform the Lead Certified Engineer of necessary parts needed for equipment repairs and status of completed/uncompleted work requests.
  • Perform the same job duties as the Non-Certified Engineer, demonstrating superior knowledge of certain aspects of the trade, if holding the City of Los Angeles five hundred (500) horsepower steam license and the EPA 608 Universal Certification.
