About The Position

Axia Women's Health is a large, integrated women's health network serving women across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Kentucky. The network includes over 400 providers in nearly 150 locations, focusing on OB/GYN care, breast health, high-risk pregnancy care, urogynecology care, behavioral health, and fertility. Athena OB/GYN, an Axia Women's Health center, is seeking a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner (WHNP) to work Monday-Friday with no weekends. The role involves providing comprehensive, specialized care to women across the lifespan, focusing on reproductive health, gynecological issues, family planning, and wellness promotion. The Nurse Practitioner will conduct age-appropriate assessments, perform routine physical examinations including pelvic and breast exams, and order diagnostic tests and prescribe medications within their scope of practice. They will also provide education on women's health issues, manage menopausal transition symptoms, and handle prenatal, perinatal, and postpartum visits. The position requires collaboration with physicians and other clinicians to ensure smooth patient care flow and adherence to quality indicators. Proficiency in computer use for documentation and communication is essential. This job description is not exhaustive and duties may change.

Requirements

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in Nursing (MS, MSN, or DNP); with focus on Women’s Health highly preferred.
  • Board certification in WHNP, FNP, ANP, or similar.
  • Current unrestricted Pennsylvania Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner license, Prescriptive Authority, and DEA, or ability to timely obtain licensure.
  • Strong understanding of healthcare principles, including anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and pathophysiology.
  • Ability to analyze complex situations, make sound clinical judgments, and adapt treatment plans as necessary.
  • Effective communication with patients, families, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Ability to explain diagnoses, treatment options, and procedures clearly and empathetically.
  • Strong computer proficiency and understanding and knowledge of EHR and healthcare technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a healthcare team.
  • Willingness to pursue continuing education and stay updated on advances in Women’s Health.
  • Must be able to work at each practice location as scheduled.
  • Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

Nice To Haves

  • 1-2 years’ Women’s Health experience preferred; willing to train new graduates with Women's Health RN background.
  • Experience with eClinicalWorks a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts age-appropriate assessments of patients, including history taking and physical examination consistent with department protocol.
  • Performs routine physical examinations within scope of practice, including pelvic examinations, breast examinations, PAP tests, and any relevant infection screenings.
  • Performs IUD and Nexplanon insertions/removals, Endometrial Biopsies, works with Pessaries - education & maintenance; may perform Colposcopies.
  • Provides education on women’s issues, preventative care, contraceptive methods, and lifestyle modifications.
  • Orders diagnostic tests and prescribes medications within scope of practice.
  • Provides expert, compassionate care for women during the menopausal transition (perimenopause, Menopause, postmenopausal) by managing symptoms like hot flashes, mood swings, and sleep issues, educating patients on treatment options (hormonal/non-hormonal), offering lifestyle advice (diet, exercise, supplements), and supporting overall well-being with evidence-based care.
  • Manages prenatal, perinatal, and postpartum visits, screening for pregnancy complications and evaluating physical and mental wellbeing after birth.
  • Confers with patients in person and by phone/electronically, collaborates with others in the department to ensure a smooth flow of patient care consistent with established quality indicators and participates in the overall coordination of patient care.
  • Performs assessment/data collection in an on-going systematic manner, focusing on physiological, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual and cognitive status, patient/family education, family involvement, and patient advocacy.
  • Consults with supervising physicians or other clinicians as dictated by patient need and assessment findings.
  • Participates with physicians and other clinicians in the department to ensure effective patient care consistent with quality indicators for patients cared for in the designated service.
  • Reviews medical record for follow up or ordering of diagnostic studies under established protocols.
  • Establishes effective working relationships with members of the health care team, patients, and families.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and applies safety principles as identified by the practice.
  • Performs efficiently in emergency situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate people, and documenting events.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management in all aspects of patient care and unit functioning.
  • Demonstrates a service philosophy in all interactions with patients, families, and all members of the health care team.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the use of computers and telecommunication modalities to document, track and convey information.
