About The Position

Requirements

• Completion of an accredited graduate-level Advanced Practice Provider (APRN or PA) program.
• North Carolina licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider, such as a Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Certified Nurse Midwife, or Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist.
• Board certification if required by the department.
• DEA registration.
• Demonstrated clinical competency.
• Effective leadership and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
• Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical skills.
• Ability to interact effectively to support successful patient care in a clinical setting.
• No prior professional experience is required.

Responsibilities

• Obtain relevant health and medical histories; perform thorough physical assessments; and review and interpret diagnostic tests and results.
• Develop differential diagnoses and treatment plans, including prescribing or ordering appropriate evidence-based medications within departmental guidelines and approved privileges.
• Arrange appropriate follow-up care and revise care plans as patients’ needs change.
• Incorporate evidence-based hospital initiatives and conduct preventive health screening based on age, history, and patient needs.
• Maintain clear, comprehensive, concise records of patient care and documentation supporting accurate billing.
• Maintain knowledge of general diseases, pathological processes, and specialty literature, including developing areas of the specialty.
• Select and interpret diagnostic studies appropriately and synthesize clinical information to reach diagnoses.
• Prioritize work, assist staff with efficient patient flow, maintain productivity standards, and lead or participate in productivity improvement projects.
• Perform medical procedures consistent with departmental guidelines, privileges, and clinical responsibilities.
• Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatment, and follow-up; collaborate with clinicians, staff, and students to promote continuity and patient- and family-centered care.
• Develop educational materials and provide instruction to physicians, housestaff, nursing staff, ancillary staff, and students.
• Identify and address personal learning needs and attend relevant education programs.
• Teach and instruct healthcare professionals and students through activities such as precepting, shadowing, lectures, training, continuing education, rounds, morning reports, and staff meetings.
• Participate in or develop community and network outreach programs.
• Apply understanding of healthcare systems to improve care delivery and lead or participate in system improvements.
• Communicate respectfully, courteously, and promptly with patients, families, coworkers, and other care team members; respond to customer needs and resolve problems.
• Accept responsibility for work outcomes and share responsibility for the team’s overall workload.
• Engage in continuous quality improvement by identifying and implementing improvement processes.
• Consult with management on clinical and system assessment, problem-solving, decision-making, and models of care.
• Lead interdisciplinary teams in delivering integrated patient care services.
• Initiate or revise protocols and guidelines to reflect evidence-based changes in care management.
• Work to influence policy-making bodies to improve patient care.
• Develop clinical programs or services within the department, unit, or clinic to improve patient care.
