About The Position

DoorDash’s Public Policy & Social Impact Team advocates for legislation that supports the health of our business and empowers our community of Dashers, local business partners, and consumers. Through our advocacy on cutting-edge public policy issues and the programs that we develop, we are shaping the future of local economies. This unique team combines direct engagement with policymakers at all levels of government, advocacy campaigns, policy research and analysis, and programs to promote equity, safety, and sustainability. DoorDash is hiring a proven Public Policy leader to support government relations in California and lead government relations and public engagement efforts across the U.S. Southwest, including Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico. This role will drive public engagement campaigns across the Southwest while building and maintaining strong, positive relationships with key stakeholders throughout the region. Based in Sacramento, you will serve as a key leader on our regional Policy team, working closely with partners across Public Affairs, Communications, Legal, and other business functions. Requirements

  • BS or BA from an accredited university
  • 4+ years of experience serving in government at the state level or working directly on public policy issues for corporate clients
  • Proven ability to achieve hard-fought policy outcomes
  • Deep understanding of government relations, including effective lobbying strategies, direct engagement, campaign approaches to issue management, managing external consultants, coordinating with counterparts at peer companies to build effective coalitions, and coordinating with industry trade associations to maximize their impact
  • Strong strategic thinker with polished written and oral advocacy skills
  • Effective public engagement organizer
  • Willing to travel 30-40% of the time
  • Self-starter; intrinsically motivated but also a good teammate

Nice To Haves

  • Government and in-house experience
  • Direct policy experience in employment/labor law
  • Significant state-level experience in California
  • Experience in the tech industry, particularly the on-demand economy

Responsibilities

  • Lead government relations and public engagement efforts across the U.S. Southwest, including Arizona, Nevada, and New Mexico.
  • Drive public engagement campaigns across the Southwest.
  • Build and maintain strong, positive relationships with key stakeholders throughout the region.
  • Serve as a key leader on the regional Policy team.
  • Work closely with partners across Public Affairs, Communications, Legal, and other business functions.
  • Effectively manage numerous complex public policy issues.
  • Translate complex policy issues into clear, concise written updates.
  • Distill nuanced topics into accessible, actionable insights that keep stakeholders aligned and informed.
  • Advance favorable policy solutions.
  • Invest time and resources into developing real and long-term relationships with stakeholders.
  • Positively represent DoorDash before community and civic leaders.
