About The Position

Battlefield Equipment Rentals (a division of Toromont Industries Ltd.), one of Canada’s premiere Construction Rental Companies, has an immediate requirement for an Operations Supervisor at our Halifax location. This is a fast-paced, constantly growing branch, which relies on our team-oriented atmosphere to help maintain and build our customer base. The Operations Supervisor operates with our staff and customers, and reports to the Regional Manager. This role is diverse and multi-faceted, helping our branches with coverage and onboarding of new staff. Travel with hotel is required frequently mainly within Nova Scotia with additional travel limited outside of province.

Requirements

  • Adhere and enforce all company safety standards and any customer safety standards when on-site.
  • Analyze and present new business opportunities, implementing location strategies while managing resources to increase revenue and maximize profitability.
  • Strong understanding of the market including customers, competitors and local market initiatives.
  • Ensure backlog of equipment for service and repair is maintained within accepted company standards.
  • Hire, train and mentor team members in various roles from rental coordinators, to parts, service and drivers.
  • Drive in store merchandising initiatives including pricing, inventory control, product placement, etc.
  • Ensure all corporate policies, procedures and relevant legislation is administered and followed appropriately by branch staff.
  • Ensure a high level of customer service is maintained, assisting in the resolution of customer service issues.
  • Maintain accurate inventories, preventing and reducing slow moving items.
  • Ensure branch is operating efficiently in terms productivity, order fulfillment, and service/repair.

Nice To Haves

  • Rental industry experience or related including construction, home improvement or retail.

  • Proven track record for decisive actions via analytical thinking, goal-directed leadership and service-oriented performance.
  • Result orientated with a demonstrated history of success.
  • Experience directing and motivating teams.
  • Competent financial and business acumen.
  • Customer service aptitude - ability to address and resolve customer service issues.
  • Excellent communication skills and techniques.
  • Ability to interface with multi-faceted, cross-functional teams and departments.
  • Excellent time management and organization abilities, with the ability to work and make decisions independently
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Computer literate with proficiencies in Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Valid Driver’s License and clean Driver’s Abstract.
  • Experience with Health and Safety training is an asset (i.e. WHMIS, etc.).
  • Technical aptitude of CAT equipment and operations would be considered an asset
  • Prior experience with both TRAC operation and Systematics would be considered an asset
  • The flexibility to adapt to emergency and overtime arrangements
  • Willingness to travel as required

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer relations while keeping a positive attitude
  • Supporting branches within Nova Scotia both within the branch and in face-to-face experiences with customers
  • Train and mentor team members in various roles from rental coordinators, to parts, service and drivers
  • Ensure all corporate policies, procedures and relevant legislation is administered and followed appropriately by branch staff
  • Assisting in the branches and providing coverage for managers if required
  • Preparing reports and presentations for the region & RM
  • Support branch operations by completing rotational assignments at branches the regions as directed if required
  • Work effectively within a team environment
  • Operates as the direct liaison between staff and customers
  • Open and close branch when necessary
  • Facilitate customer calls and walk-ins, including sourcing equipment and supplies, as well as coordinating and securing deliveries
  • Establish positive working relationships with managers, employees, and customers across the organization
  • Track customer orders to ensure timeliness and customer satisfaction
  • Produce sales orders
  • Monitor inventories – rental equipment and saleable goods
  • Assist with loading and unloading customer pick-ups when required
  • Restock product shelves as needed
  • Provide coverage for Branch managers, counter staff, parts and service staff throughout the regions if required
  • Prepare, forecast and review monthly, quarterly and annual reports, including profit and loss statements, monthly safety inspections, monthly operating reviews, yearly budgets and other reports detailing operational status if required
  • Work on assignments/projects assigned by the Regional Manager
  • Other duties as assigned
